A JetBlue flight en route to West Palm Beach had to make an emergency return to Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday, shortly after taking off. The aircraft experienced engine failure and smoke in the cockpit, leading to a ground stop and an urgent evacuation, officials reported.
According to the Port Authority, JetBlue flight 543 departed Newark Liberty International Airport at 5:43 p.m. on Wednesday. However, it quickly returned to the airport due to engine issues.
“The aircraft landed safely with no reported injuries,” stated the Port Authority. “Flight operations have been paused to facilitate the removal of the plane from the taxiway.”

JetBlue confirmed to Fox News that the flight made its return to Newark soon after departure, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew on board.

“The aircraft landed safely, and customers and crew members evacuated using the aircraft’s slides,” Jet Blue said. “Safety is JetBlue’s top priority. We are focused on supporting our customers and crew members and will work closely with the appropriate federal authorities to investigate what occurred.”
The airport reopened and resumed flight operations at about 7 p.m., the Port Authority later said.
