A JetBlue flight en route from Cancun to New Jersey had to make an emergency landing in Tampa on Thursday after experiencing a sudden “drop in altitude,” resulting in injuries to several passengers, according to the airline’s statement to Fox News Digital.

The flight, numbered 1230 and operated by an Airbus 320, was originally bound for Newark Liberty International Airport from Cancun International Airport in Mexico. However, it encountered a “flight control issue,” necessitating an urgent diversion to a closer airport, as reported by JetBlue.

The aircraft safely touched down at Tampa International Airport around 2:00 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to Fox News Digital.

JetBlue mentioned that upon landing, medical personnel were on hand to assess both passengers and crew. Those requiring further medical attention were transported to a nearby hospital for additional care.

The aircraft has since been removed from service for inspection, JetBlue said.
