Jimmy Kimmel’s Bold Remarks Ignite Trump’s Fiery Response: A Closer Look

President Donald Trump has once again set his sights on late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, labeling him a “loser” and suggesting he “should be canned” following Kimmel’s latest round of comedic jabs.

During a call-in segment on Fox News’ “The Five” on Thursday, Trump unleashed his criticism on Kimmel, who had recently used a monologue to poke fun at the new Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin.

“I’ve watched this guy, and he’s a loser,” Trump asserted to the hosts of “The Five.” “His ratings are nonexistent. He lacks talent and suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome. Every time I see him, I can’t comprehend why he’s still on air. He should be off.” The former president seemed bemused by Kimmel’s continued presence on television.

The commander-in-chief didn’t stop there — pivoting to heap praise on Mullin, a former plumber and MMA fighter turned Oklahoma senator, brushing off criticism of his unconventional resume.

“You know, he became very successful,” the president went on. “He took over a small company from his parents — and he made it very, very successful. Made money. He was also a very good fighter. I never heard of low-level MMA.”

Trump insisted Mullin had “a very good record in fighting,” calling his past opponents “rough cookies,” while adding the experience shows he’s still “sort of a fighter.”

“You know, I call him country smart,” Trump added. “He’s a very smart guy. Everybody loves him. And I think he’s gonna do a fantastic job.”

The fiery remarks come just two days after Kimmel ripped into Mullin during his March 24 monologue, sneering that the U.S. has “a plumber protecting us from terrorism now.” He also cracked, “Well, if it works for Super Mario, why not Markwayne?” and joked that rapper Lil Wayne might’ve been a better pick than former DHS chief Kristi Noem, adding, “At least we could get a concert out of it.”

It’s far from Trump’s first swipe at Kimmel. Back in November, the late-night host fired back after Trump trashed him online, noting, “I have honestly lost count now of how many times the president has demanded I be pulled off the air. I mean, talk about a snowflake, this guy. Every five weeks he flips out and wants me fired.”

In September 2025, ABC “indefinitely” suspended Kimmel’s show after his controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Kimmel was off the air for a week before returning.
