Podcaster Joe Rogan backed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s stance on “woke garbage” and “fat generals” as he seeks to overhaul the department.
“Well you saw what the f— was going on over the last four years,” Rogan said on his podcast Tuesday, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “You got guys in dresses talking about how it’s really important to have inclusiveness, ‘It’s the most important thing about the military, it’s inclusivity.’”
“We had crazy people that were in charge of very important positions,” he added.
In a Tuesday gathering with military leaders in Quantico, Va., Hegseth said that he doesn’t want to see “fat generals and admirals” or overweight troops.
He emphasized the need for servicemen to keep in line with strict fitness standards, stating troops at every rank are required to take a physical fitness test, and meet height and weight requirements twice a year.
“Frankly, it’s tiring to look out at combat formations, or really any formation, and see fat troops,” Hegseth said. “Likewise, it’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon leading commands around the country and the world.”
“It’s a bad look. It is bad, and it’s not who we are,” he continued.
Since taking the helm of the Defense Department, Hegseth has sought to rid it of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives amid larger government moves to roll back the efforts.
Although Rogan endorsed President Trump in 2024, he has spoken out about the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, its immigration enforcement efforts and Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension from ABC, among other issues.
