'Severance's John Noble Plays Burt's Husband, Fields, And John Turturro Admits He Was "Jealous" Sharing Christopher Walken

Severance finally answered one of its biggest Season 1 questions: “What’s for dinner?”

During Season 2, Episode 6, Outie Irving, played by John Turturro, paid a visit to Outie Burt’s house for dinner, where Burt’s husband Fields, portrayed by John Noble, took charge of cooking duties. The highlighted dish of the evening: ham with a cumin glaze accompanied by a side of “special” corn. It’s dinner time, folks!

The episode, titled “Attila,” showed the trio talking Lumon, religion, severance, and unprotected workplace sex at the dinner table. We also learned that Burt and Fields call each other Attila, a reference to Attila the Hun, who ruled the Huns from 434 to 453 and murdered his brother — just like Kier killed his brother, Dieter. INTERESTING…

One of the biggest takeaways for me — a Certified Burving Stan who once begged Severance to protect the iconic workplace romance at all costs — was just how difficult it was watching Burt and Irv develop this new outie dynamic, and I’m not alone. Even Severance star John Turturro said it was “odd” welcoming a third person into the beloved Burving Bubble.

“I was very jealous. Very jealous. Very hurt,” a smiling Turturro told Decider via Zoom when asked what it was like welcoming Burt’s husband into the mix (and sharing his close pal Christopher Walken). “Anything with Chris is always delicious and delightful. So it was odd being like, ‘Well, this is the other person.’ It was odd for both of us, I think, because we’re really close outside of work.”

“I love working with Chris and that’s a special, very long and old relationship,” Turturro continued. “And we’ve done it lots of times. But it was interesting to be in that situation [meeting his innie boyfriend’s outie husband] in this show.”

Who Plays Burt’s Husband, Cecil Fields? John Noble Makes His Severance Debut

If Fields looks a bit different than the last time you saw him in the Season 1 finale, when Irving watched him and Burt through their window, that’s because actor Arthur Brooks initially portrayed the character. Some fans incorrectly identified Fields as Noble back in Season 1, and for Season 2, Noble was actually cast in the role.

What’s The Deal With Burt In Season 2, Episode 6?

Another deeply troubling takeaway from “Attila” is that Burt Goodman was giving some serious Badman vibes.

When Fields and Irving shook hands in Burt’s kitchen, it was hard to ignore the perfectly positioned pineapple behind them, which could be a concerning sign that Milchick or someone else from Lumon recently paid the couple a visit. On top of the tropical fruit terror, we also learned that Burt was “a scoundrel” in his younger days and he admittedly thought he was going to hell. Fields confidently claimed Burt had been working for Lumon 20 years prior, before the severance procedure exited. Mr. Drummond calmly let himself into Irving’s apartment to snoop around during his dinner with Burt, as if someone made him aware that Irving would be preoccupied at that time. And the episode ended with Burt giving a menacing glare after Irving left his house. So what’s the deal, dude?!

When asked how worried Burving fans should be after Episode 6’s ending, Turturro added to our stress by telling Decider, “I can’t really talk about it. You’ll discover it when you discover it. We’ll see what happens with them.” *screams*

So does love transcend severance? Will Burving prevail in the outie world? Or is Burt hiding a sinister Severance secret? We’ll have to stay tuned.
