John Oliver has joined the ranks of critics taking aim at Megyn Kelly for her controversial comments about Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged activities.
The comedian criticized Kelly for what he termed ‘pedophile math’ after she suggested that Epstein wasn’t a pedophile but rather had an interest in ‘very young teen types.’
Kelly’s comments have drawn widespread backlash, including reactions from celebrities like Melissa Gilbert of Little House on the Prairie and Christina Ricci from Yellowjackets.
Oliver added his voice to the growing condemnation on his HBO show, Last Week Tonight. During Sunday’s episode, he aired a clip of Kelly claiming she knows someone closely connected to Epstein’s case who stated he ‘was not a pedophile.’
As the audience chuckled, Oliver remarked, “That clip begins with ‘I know somebody who’s super in the middle of all the Epstein stuff,’ and somehow it only gets more dubious from there.”
‘If I’m understanding you here – and I am definitely not – ‘Epstein wasn’t into eight-year-olds, he was just into very young teens…’
‘You felt that this was an important numerical distinction to bring up to your ‘yes-anding’ friend here,’ Oliver added, referring to the guest on Kelly’s show who appeared to nod along to her spiel about the convicted sex offender.
‘Look, I’m clearly no stranger to sharing upsetting numbers to my audience, but please do kill me if I ever start doing pedophile math’.Â

Kelly’s remarks came on her November 12 show, when she tried to qualify Epstein’s sexual preferences as less perverse since the girls were teens rather than children.Â
‘I do know somebody very, very close to this case, who is in a position to know virtually everything,’ the former Fox News host told her eponymous podcast.Â
‘This person has told me from the start, years and years ago, that Jeffrey Epstein, in this person’s view, was not a pedophile… but that he was into the ‘barely legal’ type.
‘Like, he liked 15-year-old girls. And I realize this is disgusting, I’m definitely not trying to make an excuse for this, I’m just giving you facts – that he wasn’t into eight-year-olds, but he liked the very young, teen types.’Â
Little House on the Prairie actress Melissa Gilbert, 61, pushed back on the comments while delving into her own past as a TV actress whose character was depicted in a relationship with a much older man.
‘You need to be careful with your words,’ Gilbert, who appeared on the popular series Little House on the Prairie from 1974–1983, told Kelly in an Instagram post.
Addams Family star Christina Ricci also blasted Kelly via Instagram Stories in two screenshots captured by Buzzfeed.Â
Ricci re-shared a post from another account reading: ‘There’s definitely a difference between a five-year-old and a 15-year-old. But that difference is not “whether or not sleeping with them makes you a pedophile.”‘
She also re-shared an image of Kelly, while adding the caption: ‘This woman is a danger to children.’
Kelly’s remarks were also sparked a firestorm of fury on social media, with people asking why she was defending a convicted sex offender.Â

Epstein’s victims were allegedly as young as 14 years old, according to the indictment used when he was charged with sex trafficking of minors in July 2019.
Federal prosecutors said he knew many of his victims were under 18, because some had explicitly told him so.
Epstein was found hanging in his New York prison cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled a suicide.
Kelly’s comment came as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released 20,000 pages of documents received from Epstein’s estate.
Donald Trump made a dramatic U-turn on the case by urging Republican lawmakers to vote to release the Epstein files – after previously claiming they were a ‘hoax’.Â
He wrote on Sunday that the House of Representatives should open the files because ‘we have nothing to hide’.Â
The House is expected to vote on whether to release the files on Tuesday, as they debate a bill called the Epstein Files Transparency Act.Â
