ABC 7 Chicago, the city’s leading news station, is in search of a talented Producer/Editor who excels in contemporary visual storytelling. This individual will be tasked with crafting engaging and original video content for a variety of platforms, including broadcast, digital, social media, and streaming services. The ideal candidate will possess strong editorial instincts, technical skills, and the ability to see projects through from inception to final delivery.

ABC7/WLS-TV Chicago stands out as the city’s top local news provider and the most-watched television station. Bolstered by decades of highly rated newscasts and a robust social media following of over 2.6 million on Facebook, ABC7 Eyewitness News delivers comprehensive coverage—including breaking news, in-depth investigations, weather updates, political coverage, and sports—to audiences in Chicago, its suburbs, and northwest Indiana.

Responsibilities for the role include pitching, producing, shooting, and editing both short-form and long-form video content suitable for broadcast, digital, and social channels. The position also involves developing feature stories, community-centric content, and digital-first pieces designed for maximum shareability.

Responsibilities:

-Pitch, produce, shoot, and edit original short-form and long-form video content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.

-Develop feature stories, community-focused content, and highly shareable digital-first pieces.

-Collaborate with production, newsroom, and creative teams to establish strong visual storytelling that enhances editorial narratives across multiple program formats.

-Produce integrated and sponsored content in partnership with sales clients while maintaining brand standards.

-Line produce and support live broadcasts, special programming, and live events as needed.

-Manage logistics for live productions, including crew coordination, scheduling, and on-site execution.

-Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and creative goals are met.

-Contribute innovative ideas and creative solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom environment.

Basic Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience producing, writing, shooting, and editing original video content in a television station or similar professional production environment.

-Demonstrated experience in live broadcast production.

-Strong writing skills with the ability to craft engaging scripts and digital copy.

-Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Working knowledge of Canon C300 and Sony FX3 camera systems.

-Experience operating in a live control room environment.

-Strong organizational and project management capabilities.

Preferred Qualification:

-Experience with additional Adobe Creative Suite tools.

-Strong understanding of digital distribution strategies and social media best practices.

-Experience line producing or supervising live broadcasts.

-Familiarity with audience engagement analytics and digital performance metrics.

-Experience producing OTT or streaming content.

Required Education:

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Preferred Education:

-Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication or related field

The hiring range for this position in Chicago, IL is $95,500 to $128,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
