JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has started an investigation after officers found a man and woman shot to death on a dirt road near Betz-Tiger Preserve late Friday night.
JSO Sergeant Steve Rudlaff said at approximately 10 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 15000 block of Saw Pit Road in reference to a shooting.
When they arrived, they found the man and woman both shot, lying on a dirt road unresponsive, according to Rudlaff. Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene, Rudlaff said, and pronounced both victims dead.
Rudlaff told First Coast News the man and woman were both in their 50s.
“We have several people detained and they have been transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed,” Rudlaff said. “At this time, we don’t know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved.”
Rudlaff further explained that detectives with JSO’s homicide and crime scene units are conducting the investigation into the double homicide, and that the sheriff’s office believes this was an isolated incident where there’s “no additional threat to the community.”
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
