JSO Chief Alan Parker said officers arrived at a home on Jacksonville’s Northside late Tuesday night and found the man pulling on a woman’s hair, later chewing it.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot and killed by Jacksonville sheriff’s officers on the city’s Northside late Tuesday night after attacking them, injuring two, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The officers are expected to be OK after suffering minor injuries, JSO said.

Around 11:20 p.m., JSO Chief Alan Parker said officers responded to a home located in the 12500 block of Brahma Bull Circle West in reference to a domestic dispute.

Parker said when officers arrived, they busted down a door to a back bedroom of the home, where they heard “loud, frantic screaming.” Once inside the room, Parker said there were things everywhere and that officers found the man pulling a woman’s hair.

“The male, who’s our suspect in this, is from behind the lady, he’s holding her by the hair, just yelling and continuing to scream, not letting her go,” Parker told First Coast News. “She’s holding onto a young child. We find out later that she is currently pregnant with that gentleman’s baby it sounds like.”

Parker said officers tased the man multiple times, which was enough to get the woman out of the room, but wasn’t enough to restrain the man.

According to Parker, officers were talking to the man for 30-45 minutes, but couldn’t understand what he was saying. Parker said during this time, the man was chewing on the woman’s hair that he ripped out of her head and wasn’t complying with officers’ commands.

“He finally comes out of the bedroom, toward the end,” Parker said. “And when he comes out, they try to get him into custody, and he’s a bigger guy, he fights pretty hard, so they back out, they tase him additional times.”

Parker said the man fought through being tased and then attacked officers, knocking one into a table and driving another through the kitchen.

“Two officers and a sergeant engage him, and they shoot him, ending the threat at that point,” Parker said.

Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were already on scene, according to Parker. They provided immediate medical care to the man after he was shot, then took him to a local hospital where he died.

JSO did not release the man’s identity. However, Parker said the two officers who shot the man are Officer Robinson and Officer Richardson, and the sergeant who shot the man is Sergeant Taylor.

Sheriff T.K. Waters described what his officers were up against.

“You try to figure out what’s happening, at the same time you want it to end safely” Waters said. “They patently tried to work through the situation. When it was over, he fought through it, removed the prongs, and took off and attacked. That’s where it ended. It’s unfortunate, you never want it to end like that. It was very bizarre.”

Waters further stated that he did not know whether the man was experiencing a mental episode or was under the influence of a drug(s).

The woman along with the officers suffered minor injuries in the incident, according to JSO.

This shooting marks JSO’s 11th officer-involved shooting in 2025, Parker said. In 2024, JSO had eight officer-involved shootings.
