A shooting incident unfolded on Eberly Drive, located west of St. Johns Bluff North, with no injuries sustained by law enforcement officers.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a tense standoff near Craig Airport, two officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office opened fire on a 30-year-old man after he allegedly brandished a firearm at them and took a woman and her child hostage Thursday night.
Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that they were dispatched to a residence on Eberly Drive around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday following a distress call from a woman claiming she had been assaulted by her partner.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Marcus Delay, had vacated the premises before the officers arrived. While the officers were in the process of securing an arrest warrant for Delay, he unexpectedly returned to the location later that afternoon.
JSO reported that Delay then forcibly detained the woman and her 9-month-old child for several hours. Fortunately, the woman and her child managed to flee into a nearby wooded area where they could safely contact emergency services.
Investigators said Delay eventually came out of the home and fired a rifle into the air.
When officers arrived in the area and located the woman and child in the wooded area, JSO said Delay made verbal threats to shoot the woman, and also threats that he would “kill everyone” if officers showed up.
Officers J. Jones and G. Comayagua shot Delay when he pointed a handgun at the woman and officers, JSO said. He was then taken into custody and taken to a hospital to receive treatment for his gunshot wounds.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to JSO.
This is the 10th officer-involved-shooting this year for JSO. The State Attorney’s Office and JSO will complete conduct separate investigations.
