Authorities have detained everyone involved in a domestic dispute that escalated into a shooting, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a man found himself in the hospital after being shot in the leg during a heated argument on Jacksonville’s Westside. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at a residence on the 1900 block of 13th Street West.
Officers arrived at the scene around 3 a.m., responding to reports of a shooting, and discovered a man in his late 30s with a gunshot wound to his left leg. Thankfully, the injury was deemed not life-threatening, according to police officials.
Initial investigations suggest that the altercation took place inside the home, where an argument between the man and another individual led to gunfire. Both individuals involved in the incident were known to each other and are part of a domestic relationship.
Sgt. Christopher Smith of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated, “The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. All parties are currently detained and cooperating with police. This appears to be an isolated incident with no further threat to the community.”
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
