An unexpected duo was seen engrossed in conversation during a cozy dinner in Canada, surprising fans who were still coming to terms with Katy Perry’s recent breakup with Orlando Bloom.

But any hope of a new romance between Perry and Justin Trudeau seems to have fizzled out fast after pictures of their rumored first date were leaked.

Reports of their brief meeting apparently unsettled Trudeau, yet this did not discourage the former Canadian Prime Minister from attending Perry’s concert just two days later, standing in a spot where he could be easily identified.

‘She’s used to things like that,’ an insider told the Daily Mail. ‘People have always been interested in her love life.’  

On July 28, Perry, 40, and Trudeau, 53, dined at Le Violon in Montreal. They enjoyed cocktails and a variety of dishes, including one with lobster. After their meal, they visited the kitchen staff to express their gratitude.

But pictures of what looked like a private date soon surfaced online, mere weeks after Perry and Bloom, 48, announced they had called it quits. 

‘I know for a fact that Justin wasn’t thrilled about the pictures getting out,’ the source said. ‘It was a first date. A first date! And these pictures came out and it became this huge thing, which is not what he seems to have wanted.

‘Katy didn’t seem to care nearly as much, but he was the one who was bothered. It didn’t chase him away or anything, but it wasn’t ideal.’

Just two days after the pictures emerged, Trudeau’s shyness seemed to have faded when he accompanied his daughter, Ella-Grace, to Perry’s concert in Montreal.

Standing in full view of fans, he was spotted singing and dancing along to her greatest hits, including Firework and Dark Horse.

While Trudeau could have opted for a more discreet location, he watched the concert – a stop on Perry’s Lifetimes Tour – from visible risers near the stage. 

‘Here’s the thing, if you’re going to be with Katy, you have to deal with the paparazzi and the fallout,’ the source said. ‘I don’t know how prepared he was for that. It can be a lot and it can be overwhelming.’ 

Perry and Trudeau were texting almost nonstop in July, but, according to our insider, their communication has naturally waned in the past two weeks. 

‘She’s busy, he’s busy,’ they said. ‘They have a lot going on, and the newness has worn off. But there’s nothing negative about it. They just aren’t in constant communication anymore. That could change, but for now, it is what it is. It has cooled off.

‘They still have nothing bad to say about each other, and in fact I feel like she’s been saying really nice things about him.’ 

The Canadian politician shocked the world in 2023 when he announced his separation from his wife of nearly 20 years, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. He has gone on several dates since the split – but not with anyone as high-profile as Perry. 

Perry and Bloom announced their split earlier this summer, insisting that they would continue to focus on co-parenting their four-year-old daughter, Daisy.

But despite the sexy singles’ seemingly intimate dinner and subsequent concert, a second source told the Daily Mail at the time that their rendezvous was never anything serious.

‘Katy and Justin are treating their get together as just that: a get together,’ they said.

‘She hasn’t told anyone it was anything more, and she usually wears her heart on her sleeve, so if something were happening, she’d let her close friends know. But right now it is nothing more than friendship.

‘She isn’t ready to start dating anyone right now, she has to continue to focus on her healing from separating from Orlando.

‘Could that change? Obviously. But the ball is in Katy’s court right now – no relationship so far.’

Representatives for Trudeau did not return the Daily Mail’s request for comment.
