WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) A fight broke out in a Sedgwick County courtroom Tuesday during a sentencing hearing involving a fatal shooting at Towne East Square Mall in 2022. The sentencing was for Te’bryis Robinson, 19, who was convicted of killing TrenJ’vious “Tubby” Hutton, 14.

Before the sentence, Hutton’s mother, Jeannette Dees, spoke to the judge about the impact of her son’s loss. As she spoke, her words became more fiery.
“My son’s life is worth more than 20 years,” she said.
Dees claims that after Robinson took a plea in July 2024, he released a rap about the shooting.
“August 25, 2024 he dropped another song that’s called ‘Tubby Attack’ saying how he made me cry and how he shot Tubby six times,” she said. “He made several raps, and all these basically took place while he was in jail, and you can tell.”
Dees stated several times that she doesn’t believe Robinson has shown any remorse.
“He don’t care. If he don’t listen to his lawyer, then he wastin’ all of our time,” she said. “He said in the interrogation part that he put himself in the fight. He wasn’t even in the fight … he jumped in the fight.”
Afterward, some other people in the courtroom became upset and stood up. As their gestures and words became more aggressive, the judge and deputies tried to calm the situation, but a punch was thrown, starting a brawl.
The brawl quickly moved toward a woman holding a baby. Deputies worked to protect the baby while also breaking up the fight.
The entire fight lasted about 30 seconds. Some of the people involved had to leave the courtroom, but others were allowed to stay for the sentencing.

The case dates back to March 18, 2022, when shots were fired inside the mall, sending people running for cover. Hutton was hit. Witnesses tried to save him, but he died at the scene.
Police said Robinson, who was 16 at the time, fired the shots over an ongoing dispute with some other people who were at the mall. After several court hearings, the court ruled Robinson should be tried as an adult.

Last July, Robinson, 19, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and aggravated battery. He later tried to withdraw the plea, but the judge denied the request last month.
On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Judge Jeffrey Goering sentenced Robinson to:
- 155 months for second-degree murder,
- 59 months for attempted second-degree murder, and
- 41 months for aggravated battery.
The sentences total 255 months and will be served one after the other, for 21 years and 3 months in prison.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office plans to review the video of the courtroom brawl. As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
