Kansas woman brought back to life ... twice

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) A woman from Great Bend was declared dead not once, but twice. She is alive thanks to a team of health care professionals, and on Monday, she got to show her gratitude in person.

Doctors say time was everything, and after a massive heart attack, they resuscitated Leona Prosser at the hospital in Great Bend. They then rushed her to Wichita for specialized care. There, she went into cardiac arrest again and was brought back to life twice.

“I must have been in a good place or I wouldn’t, you know, it’s hard to explain,” said Prosser.

She says Feb. 6, 2025, wasn’t her time to go.

“I remember very, very little. I had an awful lot of people who were praying for me, and God brought me to the right place with the right people, and if it hadn’t been for that, I wouldn’t be here today,” said Prosser.

This reunion is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder of how fragile and resilient life can be.

“That’s pretty rare, and that’s a scenario we always dread. The concern is once someone releases such a level of sickness and illness, the whole body shuts down and they go into multi-organ failure,” said Dr. Bassem Chehab.

Dr. Chehab, who helped save Prosser, says the quick teamwork across two hospitals made the difference.

“It’s not just one doctor taking care of the patient. It’s a village,” said Dr. Chehab.

Dr. Chehab says the reunion is his why.

“Every time we are able to see people who actually survive, go back to their normal life is really very rewarding,” said Dr. Chehab.

As for Prosser, she says surviving not once but twice feels like divine intervention.

“I really believe that, you know, all the prayers were answered by providing me with the proper care. You know, had it not been for Dr. Chehab, his team, and everyone else, there’s no way I’d be here today,” she said.

Prosser’s doctor says without the partnership of EMS and paramedics, his team wouldn’t be able to do the work they do. Prosser says she’ll continue to live every day with gratitude.
