Kanye West made waves in Mexico City on Friday, January 30, when he surprised concertgoers with a special guest appearance that left fans buzzing. During a performance filled with some of his most iconic tracks, the 48-year-old rapper introduced an unreleased song, sharing the stage with none other than his 12-year-old daughter, North West.
Clad in a striking all-white jumpsuit, West poured his heart into the lyrics, “You know, I never left you,” as captured by fans on social media. He continued, “‘Cause every road that leads to heaven is right beside you / so I can say, ‘Hello, my only one.'” This emotional moment highlighted the bond between the father-daughter duo.
North, showcasing her burgeoning talent, delivered a verse from West’s upcoming album, “Vultures,” during a listening party in Miami on December 12. At just 10 years old, North’s presence was electrifying as she rapped confidently, “I love it here, we gonna take over the year for another year, it’s your bestie, Miss Miss Westie, don’t try to…” Her performance hinted at a promising future in music.
North chimed in, duetting with her dad on the harmony. She rocked an oversized black ensemble and wore her blue tresses long and straight for the occasion, later sharing a pic of her ensemble to her Instagram Stories without a caption.
North is the eldest daughter of West and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, who divorced in 2021. Despite a once-acrimonious dynamic, the pair turned a corner as they bonded over North’s music pursuits.
“I’m a really empathetic person. I mean, at the end of the day, we’re always family,” Kim, 45, said on sister Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast earlier this month, detailing their coparenting relationship. “I always look at it that way, no matter what’s going on. There are times when I have to be super protective and there are times when, at any moment, I would love that relationship. I’ve always said that.”
She continued, “The music side and the producing isn’t my thing, and that’s her bonding thing with her dad. Even just coming up with stuff, we have to communicate about how North moves through that world and all these opportunities that come her way and having to filter that and respecting his opinion on the things that go on with his kids is really important.”
Kim and West also share sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 6, as well as daughter Chicago, 8.
As the now-exes coparent their children, they’ve also worked to nurture their respective interests.
“[North] is homeschooled, and a lot of it is me helping her do a lot of the teachings and … we do a lot of realistic courses [of] things that she’s really into,” Kim explained on Khloé’s show, specifically referring to her firstborn. “She’s really into math. We’ll give budgets and we’ll go around and we’ll get stuff and we’ll add it all up and subtract it all. She has a brand-building class. It’s, like, an actual course and a curriculum. [It’s] fully interactive learning, and she had an idea of making hats and making jewelry and all the things she wanted to make, so we made it a course.”
North also takes a music class, where she visits a recording studio to write, record and produce music.
“It’s been so fun to see her blossom,” Kim gushed. “I’ll add her writing out all her lyrics as part of her spelling tests. We do all of the things at home that she really enjoys and are challenging, and I think [people] would be proud to see how smart she really is and how creative she really is.”
North previously revealed in 2024 that she was working on her debut album, Elementary School Dropout.
