Kanye West’s latest documentary, In Whose Name?, is now showing in theaters, offering an inside look at some of the most tumultuous periods of his life.
In a notably intense scene shared by TMZ, the documentary reveals West clashing with his former mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, during a tense dispute about his public reputation after his 2016 hospitalization.
In the clip, West insists he “would rather be dead” than take medication.
As Kris tried to comfort him by saying that online opinions were irrelevant, West lost his composure, repeatedly shouting, “It does matter!” right in her face.
The documentary, which covers West’s life from 2018 to 2024, also dives into his infamous 2018 Saturday Night Live appearance, where he wore a red “Make America Great Again” hat and later claimed he was “bullied” for it.
Backstage, SNL star Michael Che confronted him, telling the rapper he was “foul” for throwing the cast under the bus, especially since Che once viewed The College Dropout as “a superhero for the Black community.” The tense exchange nearly escalated before West’s longtime collaborator Consequence stepped in.
Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the film documents everything from West’s intimate 2021 visit to his Chicago childhood home to the rollout of his album Donda, along with his string of antisemitic rants and controversies.
In short, it’s an unfiltered look at Ye’s whirlwind in recent years — now playing in theaters.
