Katie Holmes was spotted smiling in public for the first time since her ex-husband Tom Cruise evaded a Father’s Day question amidst his strained relationship with their daughter, Suri.

During the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on Monday, Tom Cruise was questioned about his plans for Father’s Day, to which he simply responded, ‘just having fun, man’.

Despite Tom’s nonchalant response about the upcoming celebration, Katie Holmes, 46, seemed unfazed as she attended Tod’s Cocktail Party in New York on Tuesday.

She wore a stunning strapless brown dress, complemented with a chic white handbag and stylish heels.

When asked about his plans for the upcoming celebration at the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning premiere on Monday, Tom said he will be ‘just having fun, man’

Tom, 62, was seemingly caught off guard when a E! News journalist stopped him on the red carpet to ask about the looming celebration. 

He was asked: ‘Father’s Day is just around the corner. What would an ideal Father’s Day look like for you?

He paused and said, ‘You know…’ before trailing off and shaking his head as his gaze moved to something in the distance. ‘Just having fun, man.’ 

Without referencing any of his kids, the father-of-three, who also broke his silence about his romance with Ana de Armas at the premiere, then redirected the conversation to his action films. 

‘Making movies, big adventures, having a great time,’ he added. 

Tom is reportedly close to his daughter Isabella, now 32, and son Connor, now 30, both of whom he and his second wife Nicole Kidman adopted when they were married in the ’90s. 

He was first married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 before getting married to Nicole that same year. 

Tom and Nicole were together for 11 years before their 2001 split.

In the comments section of the YouTube video, a slew of fans seemed appalled by the ‘naughty question.’

One person pointed out that he was ‘not interested in answering the father question’ and called his estrangement as ‘his biggest failure.’ 

Some people were shocked by the ‘wild question’ as others slammed Tom for his lack of a relationship with his youngest child. 

‘A simple question about Father’s Day and he can’t answer it. He has gotten to a point where all he can talk about is movies and his love of movies. What about being a parent, Tom? There was a time when that was important to you. Sad for this man.’
