Katy Perry reveals hidden fears about space trip in leaked letter

A handwritten note from Katy Perry has provided fans with a deeper look into the mind of the pop superstar set to launch to space Monday.

Perry will depart from Texas accompanied by Lauren Sanchez, who is engaged to Jeff Bezos, TV host Gayle King, activist Amanda Nguyen, ex-rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and director Kerianne Flynn for a groundbreaking 11-minute journey.

The six-person crew is set to lift off at 8:30am CT aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, named NS-31.

Perry penned a list of affirmations over the weekend, with the first saying: ‘I am safe,’ leading her fans to believe she may be terrified about shooting off to space.

The three-word message has been seen as Perry calming the natural fear that comes with spaceflight and reassuring herself that she will be protected during and after the mission.

Perry also broke down in a morning interview when asked if she had a message for her family.

‘My message is that I love them and I am so full of love,’ she said, wiping tears from her eyes.

‘I am so grateful to be representing fearless females in my family.’

As the capsule enters freefall, the crew will be treated to three to four minutes of weightlessness as they leave their seats to take in the magnificent view.

However, they won’t have long to enjoy it, as the capsule will start its return to Earth after just minutes in space before deploying its parachutes and landing safely.

The New Shepard capsule will reach a maximum altitude of 62 to 66 miles.

That will take it just above the Karman line – a boundary that is often used to denote the edge of space.

Based on Blue Origin’s previous flight records, NS-31 should pass the Karman line about three and a half minutes after launch, officially entering space.

Blue Origin claims that this will be the first time an all-female crew makes the journey into space, but that claim is somewhat controversial.

Notably, it ignores the fact that Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, flew a solo mission to orbit in 1963.

Additionally, the use of the Karman line as the boundary of space is not without its critics.

Perry has been sharing her thoughts about the mission this past week, saying Wednesday: ‘I am talking to myself every day and going, ‘You’re brave, you’re bold, you are doing this for the next generation to inspire so many different people but especially young girls to go, ‘I’ll go to space in the future.’ No limitations.”

The Roar hitmaker also said she has been ‘psychologically’ preparing for the spaceflight by reading work from the late Sagan and other scientists.

While her messages appear to show Perry’s hidden fears about going to space, the popstar said she has dreamt of this for 15 years.

The singer also gave a behind-the-scenes look inside the capsule as she shared her excitement over the imminent launch.

Dressed in her blue space suit she spoke to the camera and gave a tour of the ‘capsule’ where they have been doing their training.

In the video she gave a tour and said: ‘Okay I’m going to show you the capsule that we have been training in for the last few days. Here I am! Seat number 2!’

She added: ‘I think I’m gonna sing in space – I’ve got to sing in space! These seats are for all my astronaut girlie friends. We are the ‘taking up space crew’. That phrase now has a double entendre.

‘I’m not going to say I can’t believe I’m here because I can and I think if you believe in your dreams that’s actually how you make them come true!’
