(The Hill) — In a playful exchange, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer sportingly jested with Norway’s leader following England’s victory in their World Cup match against Norway on Saturday.
Starmer humorously remarked on social media, saying, “Norway 1 – 2 Jude Bellingham. @JonasGahrStore, your boys took one h-ll of beating,” as he referred to the key player in the game.
Jude Bellingham, a standout midfielder for England, was the star of the match, netting both of his team’s goals during the game held in Miami. Fans delightedly serenaded him with The Beatles’ iconic tune “Hey Jude” in celebration of the triumph.
Starmer, who declared last month his plans to step down from Britain’s highest political office, is a well-known sports enthusiast.
Adding to the celebrations, former English football legend David Beckham shared in the excitement by posting a congratulatory message to the team on Instagram.
“What a moment in miami, I’m so proud of the team tonight reaching the Semi final of the World Cup and to celebrate with my family was so special… Thank you @england for giving our country these moments,” he wrote alongside a photo of him and his family at the game.
England will now proceed to the semi-finals round of this tournament, where they will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Switzerland. The team has not played in a World Cup final since 1966.
