It may seem like Mark Consuelos never ages, but he’s no Gen Zer.
Consuelos made an error on Tuesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark after coming across a statistic revealing that many Americans are dishonest with their dentist. He mistakenly assumed that “Gen Zers” topped the list as the most dishonest group in the survey.
“That’s us,” he told Kelly Ripa, who replied with a confused, “What?”
As laughter emerged from the audience, Consuelos asked, “Are we Gen Zers?”
Ripa explained, “No, honey. We’ve given birth to Gen Zers.”
A chart outlining the distinctions in generations appeared onscreen, revealing both Consuelos and Ripa to be part of Gen X.
“You got your letters confused,” Ripa teased.
Consuelos proceeded with sharing the study, reading that “these dental deceptions don’t come without emotional consequences.”
“Nearly 2/3 — 64% — reported feeling guilty about lying to their dentist,” he said.
He highlighted the survey’s findings on “generational differences” in tendencies towards guilt, pointing out that individuals from Gen X tended to feel less guilty about lying to their doctors.
“I love it in the doctors offices when they ask you how many drinks you have a week,” he quipped. “Is it a week? Daily?”
Ripa shared a humorous anecdote, recalling how she used to deliberate her self-assessment score. She joked about her thought process out loud, strategizing to sound truthful yet not overly virtuous. Ultimately, she would estimate a number and factor in how her doctor might interpret it, creating her average score.
Consuelos likened her philosophy to asking your partner in a new relationship how many boyfriends they’ve had.
“And they say, ‘Three,’ and you’re like, ‘Ok.’ Which for guys, as guys, we know that means 12, if you know what I’m saying,” he elaborated.
Ripa fired back, “Do you want to know what I’m saying?”
Consuelos urged Ripa to tell him, which may have been a mistake.
“When you roll up to the drive-thru in Florida and the woman handing you your lunch says, ‘I used to date your husband,’ you don’t need to know anything else,” Ripa concluded.
Consuelos teased, “Tampa’s a very loving city!”
