In a week filled with contract extensions, the Diamondbacks handed one out themselves.

Ketel Marte has agreed to a six-year, $116 million extension, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported Wednesday.

Marte, who had already been signed through the 2028 season, can make up to $149.5 million with escalators in the extension.

MLB.com reported that Marte can opt out of his deal after 2030.

The announcement comes shortly after the Padres secured Jackon Merill with a nine-year, $135 million deal, and the Red Sox revealed an eight-year contract for rookie infielder Kristian Campbell for a guaranteed sum of $60 million.

Boston also gave new ace Garrett Crochet a new six-year, $170 million deal on Tuesday.

Marte, a two-time All-Star, has become a big part of Arizona’s core over his nine seasons with the team.

His performance last season marked his most impressive to date, achieving a .292/.372/.560 batting line and hitting a career-high 36 home runs, leading to a third-place finish in the NL MVP race, trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Francisco Lindor.

His offensive prowess at second base earned him his first Silver Slugger of his career.

Since coming over from the Mariners in a 2016 trade, Marte has 140 home runs with an .844 OPS.

Marte played a crucial role in the Diamondbacks’ journey to the 2023 NL pennant, capturing the NLCS MVP award with a .387 batting average and contributing five extra-base hits against the Phillies.

He hit .329 with two homers over 17 postseason games that year as Arizona fell in the World Series to the Rangers.
