Kevin Durant has 'no desire' to join Timberwolves as trade rumors heat up

Kevin Durant is not interested in taking his talents to Minnesota.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday that the future Hall of Famer has “no desire” to join the Timberwolves, preferring instead to be traded to the Heat, Spurs, or Rockets.

Teams considering a trade for the 36-year-old superstar — like Minnesota — would be wise to take Durant’s personal preferences into account, since he is entering the final year of his four-year, $194 million contract and will be up for a new deal.

If the Timberwolves were to take a gamble and trade for Durant, they’d likely only have the 15-time All-Star as a short-term rental.

Charania said the Suns, who “remain in active conversations around the league” on a potential deal, have been working with Durant’s agent and business partner Rich Kleiman to figure out a landing spot for the former MVP.

Last year, in his 16th season in the NBA, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

In Minnesota, Durant would have the opportunity to team up with young superstar Anthony Edwards, who idolized Durant growing up.

And the Timberwolves would offer the aging Durant a prime opportunity at his third NBA ring, coming off a pair of appearances in the Western Conference finals.

Nonetheless, Durant is apparently more interested in other destinations.

The Spurs would be an enticing fit, with Durant slotting in alongside a young, emerging core that features Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox.

The Rockets, too, are an up-and-coming team in the West with exciting young players like Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson.

The Heat are coming off a disappointing 37-45 campaign, but they still boast talented players in Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo and others — not to mention a two-time NBA champion coach in Erik Spoelstra.

On Friday, Charania reported that a deal for Durant could be completed “in the next few days.”
