A coalition of Democratic legislators convened a “shadow hearing” in Chicago on Friday to discuss federal immigration policies and their consequences.
This unofficial gathering, not formally recognized as a Judiciary Committee hearing, was orchestrated by Illinois Democratic Representatives Jesús “Chuy” García, Delia Ramirez, Robin Kelly, and Danny Davis, alongside Representative Pramila Jayapal from Washington.
Dubbed “Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Assault on Chicago,” the hearing aimed to scrutinize the immigration measures implemented during the Trump administration. The session featured testimonies from individuals sharing personal narratives about their experiences, the trauma endured, alleged breaches of constitutional rights, and the impact on labor.
