Timothy Jones, aged 44, made his way from Keystone Heights to Lake City, where he encountered law enforcement officials, as reported by the Lake City Police Department.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — On Thursday, a man from Keystone Heights was apprehended during a sting operation orchestrated by the Lake City Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).
Jones faces allegations of traveling from Clay County to Lake City with the intent of engaging in sexual activity with an individual he believed to be an underage girl.

The Lake City Police Department explained that the operation involved detectives who assumed the identities of teenage girls. They posted fictitious ads on a website frequently used to set up sexual meetings.
Authorities revealed that Jones engaged in sexually explicit discussions with undercover detectives, whom he thought were minors. Subsequently, arrangements were made for him to visit Lake City for a planned encounter. Upon his arrival, ICAC detectives detained him, charging him with three felonies, including first-degree sexual assault on a victim under 15.
The Lake City Police Department said Thursday that additional arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
“Protecting children from individuals who use the internet to prey on minors remains one of our highest priorities,” Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in a statement. “These investigations are proactive efforts to identify dangerous offenders before a child becomes a victim. I want to thank our ICAC detectives and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and continued partnership in keeping our community safe.”
