The return of the classic sauce comes as KFC is revitalizing its menu amid stiff competition from Chick-Fil-A, Raising Canes and other chicken restaurants.
WASHINGTON — KFC is bringing back a classic sauce from the 1990s this week as it continues to bring back fan-favorite menu items.
The KFC’s Original Honey BBQ sauce will officially return to the chicken chain restaurant on Monday, Oct. 6. KFC said the sauce’s return was highly requested by fans on social media, with many trading copycat recipes and reminiscing on the nostalgic sauce.
“KFC’s Original Honey BBQ wasn’t just a menu offering, it became a cultural touchstone that fans have been craving and asking us to bring back for years,” Catherine Tan-Gillespie, President, KFC U.S, said in a press release. “What better way to continue our KFC comeback than to bring back this legendary flavor and reintroduce it in a bigger and bolder way — on everything.”
The sauce will also now be available on tenders, classic pieces of chicken and even the chain’s chicken sandwich.
The legacy chicken chain will also bring back moist towelettes.
To celebrate the return of the sauce, KFC is offering a “throwback” deal, offering a chicken sandwich for $3.99.
The “throwback” pricing comes ahead of KFC’s Scary Good Deals promotion this month. For 13 days leading up to Oct. 31, Rewards members can get discounts and offers via the KFC app and website. The chicken chain said deals include a free classic chicken sandwich with a purchase of $10, 50% off a 12-piece chicken only bucket and 50-piece nuggets for $20.
The deals are limited to one per account and cannot be combined with other deals, according to the announcement.
KFC has been revitalizing their menu amid stiff competition from Chick-Fil-A, Raising Canes and other chicken restaurants.
In August, the chicken restaurant brought back its potato wedges and hot and spicy wings to menus nationwide.
