The 82nd Annual Golden Globes — aka “Hollywood’s Party of the Year” — aired on CBS Sunday, January 5, and so far, it’s been a real hoot!
Nikki Glaser, a well-known comedian and actress, kicked off the event with a memorable opening monologue. Jeremy Strong made a statement on the red carpet with his stylish velvet bucket hat, while his Succession co-star Kieran Culkin delivered another endearingly awkward acceptance speech.
Back in 2024, Culkin won Best Actor in a Drama Series and famously told Pedro Pascal to “suck it” before letting out a burp due to awards show nerves. Fast forward to the 2025 ceremony, where he clinched the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture award for his role in A Real Pain. Upon receiving the award, Culkin once again showcased his charmingly quirky personality.
Expressing his gratitude, Culkin began with, “Oh man. Oh thanks. This is incredible. I’m feeling a little – my wife and I did a shot of tequila with Mario Lopez. Definitely feeling that. Whole speech is gone. Terrific, Kieran. You’re doing fine! I love the Golden Globes,” before transitioning into a more serious tone.
“The first-ever acknowledgement I got as an actor was a Golden Globe nomination when I was basically a kid, and so that meant a lot. So this has a special place,” the actor continued. “Now it’s like the best date night my wife and I ever have, so thanks Golden Globe people, you’re great. Keep doing what you’re doing.”
Culkin went on to praise A Real Pain co-star and writer Jesse Eisenberg for his “incredible script, saying “he’s a fantastic director and scene partner.” He then told the Golden Globes “please wrap up” warning to “piss off” because he had a few thanks left to give. Among them was his “gorgeous wife,” Jazz Charton.
“Thank you for putting up with what you call ‘my mania,’” he told her, while assuring the cackling crowd that he finally got a therapist. “We’ll see where that goes,” he laughed.
Before Culkin walked off stage he gave a final precious shoutout: “I love you, mom! Bye!”
The A Real Pain recognition marked Culkin’s sixth Golden Globe nomination and second win, but here’s hoping it’s not his last. We need more awkward speeches!
