In a dramatic turn of events in Lake City, Florida, law enforcement officials have apprehended a suspect linked to a brazen attempted murder incident. The Lake City Police Department confirmed the arrest, stating that the individual in question was identified as the gunman in this troubling case.

On the evening of April 2, police officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of NW Bascom Norris Drive and NW Oakland Avenue. The alert was triggered by advanced FLOCK gunshot detection technology, which swiftly brought authorities to the scene.

Upon arrival, investigators discovered shell casings scattered across the area, along with vehicle debris that suggested a collision had occurred. Shortly thereafter, police received word that a gunshot victim had made it to HCA North Florida Hospital, seeking urgent medical attention.

Further investigation revealed a chilling sequence of events: a Ford Mustang had aggressively pursued a Toyota Tundra through the streets, culminating in a drive-by style shooting. The suspect, believed to have been an occupant of the Mustang, unleashed multiple shots during the chase, according to police reports.

Police say that through their investigation, it was determined that the driver of a Ford Mustang had been pursuing the driver of a Toyota Tundra before an occupant of the Mustang fired multiple rounds in a “drive-by style shooting.”

Through their investigation, police identified 23-year-old Jamal Waters as the shooter. He was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder while armed with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a person under 24 with a prior qualifying delinquency.

“This type of targeted violence will not be tolerated in our community,” Police Chief Gerald Butler said. “Our officers and detectives acted quickly to identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable. We remain committed to protecting our citizens and addressing violent crime aggressively.”
