Fans of Landman may want to settle in, because the wait for fresh episodes is shaping up to be a long one.
Taylor Sheridan’s breakout Paramount+ drama has quickly grown into one of the platform’s most-watched titles, anchored by Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a hard-charging West Texas landman juggling the volatility of the oil industry with the constant turbulence of his own family life.
That mix has helped make Landman one of Sheridan’s most addictive series. It delivers the gritty, high-pressure storytelling viewers expect from his TV universe, but it also leans into an unexpectedly sharp comic streak. In one scene, Tommy might be scrambling to contain a disaster in the oil patch; in the next, he is caught in a wildly absurd argument with someone at home.
Audiences have clearly responded. Season 2 turned into a record-breaking success for Paramount+, prompting the streamer to bring Landman back for Season 3. The catch, however, is that the next chapter does not appear to be coming anytime soon.
Season 2 wrapped on January 18, 2026, and although some fans had hoped the series might return before the year was over, that now seems highly unlikely. James Jordan, who plays Dale, recently shared a production update that strongly suggests Landman Season 3 will not premiere in 2026.
“I believe we’re bringing back the same director, Stephen Kay, who I adore. So it’s going to be a great ride. We start that sometime in September and we’ll shoot that through the first quarter of next year,” Jordan told Us Weekly.
That’s a pretty clear indication that Landman is going to be a 2027 show. There still isn’t an official premiere date from Paramount+, but if production runs through the first quarter of next year, fans should probably be thinking about the middle or latter part of 2027 rather than holding out hope for a surprise return this year.
And there’s plenty waiting for Tommy whenever the show does come back.
Season 2 ended with Tommy officially breaking away from M-Tex after Cami Miller (Demi Moore) fired him. Rather than simply find another job, he decided to take a much bigger gamble and start his own oil company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, with his son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) serving as president. Tommy also brought several familiar faces into the new operation, including T.L., Dale, Rebecca, Nate, Boss and Ariana.

Of course, Tommy’s shiny new business comes with a pretty significant catch: Gallino (Andy Garcia) is backing it.
That means Tommy may have escaped M-Tex, but he’s hardly free of trouble. Gallino has a lot of money riding on the new company, and he made it very clear that Tommy will pay a steep price if the venture fails.
Cooper also ended the season in a much better place than it initially looked like he would. After killing the man who attacked Ariana, he was facing the possibility of a murder charge. Rebecca stepped in to help, and Tommy eventually convinced the authorities to leave Cooper alone after it became clear that the attacker had died from a heart attack rather than the injuries Cooper inflicted.
By the end of the finale, the Norris family had somehow gone from Tommy losing his job to launching an entirely new oil company. Not a bad turnaround for a single episode.
There’s also a nice bit of irony to where Season 2 leaves things. Tommy spends much of the season worrying about everything that could go wrong, only to finish the finale surrounded by his family and longtime colleagues, with a new business and a fresh start in front of him.
But this is Landman, so nobody should expect that good fortune to last forever.
For now, fans will just have to wait. Season 3 is coming, but with production stretching into 2027, 2026 is officially off the table. And considering the mess Tommy, Cooper and the rest of the Norris clan have created for themselves, the wait might be frustrating — but there’s a pretty good chance it’ll be worth it.
