LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 16-year-old who shot and killed his father for taking his digital devices away for poor grades was sentenced to probation after accepting a plea deal in April.

Lincoln Peterson was 15 years old when he shot his father, Jeremy Peterson, on Dec. 28, 2024, inside the family’s home near Smoke Ranch Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

Records show Lincoln Peterson was initially charged with murder but agreed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter with the use of a deadly weapon. On Thursday, Aug. 14, he was sentenced by Clark County District Judge Tierra Jones to 5 years of probation and a suspended 3 to 7.5-year sentence.

During his probation period, he must follow these conditions:

  • No consumption or possession of alcohol or marijuana
  • Must provide all passwords for any computers, computer storage, cell phones, and all social media accounts to parole and probation.
  • Comply with an imposed curfew
  • Complete counseling
  • Get his high school diploma or GED

If Peterson violates any of the conditions, he will go to prison to serve his suspended sentence.
