CHICAGO (WLS) — A hip-hop party in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood aims to promote peace and unity.

The Firehouse Community Arts Center (FCAC) will host its 18th Annual Block Party for Peace on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This vibrant, family-focused event is the only hip-hop block party on Chicago’s West Side dedicated to promoting nonviolence and community healing.

Visitors can expect a day full of engaging activities for all ages, including food vendors, live music, art exhibits, yoga sessions, basketball tournaments, graffiti art demonstrations, and an EMC battle. Local hip-hop artists will perform throughout the day, creating a lively atmosphere culminating in a memorable celebration of peace and culture.

The festivities will kick off with the One Lawndale Unity Service, a Sunday service promoting unity and hope.

Highlights include the Chicago Historic Route 66 Chicago Classic Car Show, the only historic car show in Chicago. Principle Barbers is offering free grooming services. There will also be a Back-to-School Festival hosted by Ald. Monique Scott and a blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross.

“This year, we’re excited to collaborate with organizations that share our vision of unity and community empowerment,” said Pastor and CEO Phil Jackson. “By joining forces, we can reach more people and amplify our messages of peace, hope, and resilience. Together, we demonstrate how collaboration can inspire positive change in our neighborhoods.”

Guests are encouraged to support FCAC by purchasing food and offerings at the event. Proceeds will support vital programs, including Spark Arts-which nurtures social-emotional development through dance, technology, culinary arts, visual arts, audio engineering, fashion, and video production, and the VIP program, designed to foster purpose, leadership, and character among young men, leading into FCAC’s workforce development initiatives.
