Attorneys for Foolio murder suspect can't mention domestic violence incidents

In a motion filed Tuesday, the state said past domestic violence incidents between Alicia Andrews and Isaiah Chance, also charged in Foolio’s murder, are “hearsay.”

TAMPA, Fla. — Ahead of her trial starting Monday, a judge has ruled that attorneys for Alicia Andrews, one of five people charged in Jacksonville rapper Foolio’s murder, can’t bring up prior incidents of domestic violence at trial between Andrews and her boyfriend, who is also charged in the rapper’s murder.

Andrews, 22, faces two charges in Foolio’s 2024 death: first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

The rapper, whose real name is Charles Jones, was celebrating his birthday in Tampa when he was shot and killed on June 23, 2024.

The Tampa Police Department said Andrews assisted her boyfriend Isaiah Chance Jr. in tracking and following Jones and his entourage to two separate locations the night of the shooting.

In a motion filed by prosecutors Tuesday, the state said past domestic violence incidents between Andrews and Chance are “hearsay” and irrelevant to the trial since “duress is not available as a defense to either principal or an aider or abettor to intentional homicide prosecutions in Florida.”

Following up on the motion Wednesday, Judge Michelle Sisco, who will preside over the trial, granted the state’s motion, meaning Andrews’ attorneys will not be allowed to mention past domestic violence incidents between Andrews and Chance, as it’ll “serve only to prejudice the jurors against the state.”

Law enforcement officials did not list Andrews as one of the suspects who shot and killed Foolio. Tampa police say the shooters are Rashad Murphy, Sean Gathright and Davion Murphy, who all will have their trial at a later date along with Chance.

JSO SWAT officers arrested Andrews and Chance at a home in Jacksonville’s Oceanway area on June 27, 2024, according to Andrews’ arrest report.

Upon arrival, police notified Andrews and Chance that the place was surrounded, they had a search warrant, and that they were not leaving. The report says officers were giving instructions for 15-20 minutes before Chance and Andrews exited the home.

Both were arrested upon exiting the residence. Andrews was charged with resisting an officer without violence.

Police and prosecutors said the motive for Jones’ murder is tied to an ongoing feud spanning years between Jones’ 6 Block gang and two rival Jacksonville gangs, ATK and 1200 allied together. Chance is a documented ATK gang member, and Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy are documented 1200 gang members, police said.

The feud between 6 Block and its rival gangs ATK and 1200 has spanned over a decade, with dozens of murders by and against both sides, police said.

Jacksonville rapper Ksoo, whose real name is Hakeem Robinson, was found guilty just last month for the 2020 murder of Charles McCormick. Robinson is a documented member of ATK, while McCormick was a member of 6 Block.

Robinson is also charged in Foolio’s brother’s murder.

Andrews’ trial is scheduled to take place over 10 days, court records show.
