According to a startling report, officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department attempted to mitigate potential fallout for Mayor Karen Bass prior to publishing details on the response to the destructive Palisades fire.

A confidential, unsigned memo, as first uncovered by the Los Angeles Times, openly acknowledges that fire officials aimed to shield both Mayor Bass and other city entities from criticism before releasing an after-action report in October.

“Our objective is to prepare and protect Mayor Bass, the City, and the LAFD from reputational damage related to the upcoming release of its After Action Review Report (AARR) through a comprehensive strategy involving risk assessment, proactive and reactive communications, and crisis response,” the memo reportedly states.

This revelation adds to the growing controversy surrounding Mayor Bass’ alleged forceful media strategy following the incident.

The California Post has disclosed that the critical after-action review underwent significant changes from its draft version to the finalized public document.

Bass subsequently was accused of orchestrating the LAFD’s response to public questions about the fire.
