LeAnn Rimes has revealed that she’s had to keep her health struggles under wraps, just months after her teeth fell out mid-performance.

The 43-year-old singer candidly discussed in a new interview released on Tuesday the emotional and mental challenges she has experienced over the past few years.

‘For a long time, it truly felt like I was concealing so much of who I am,’ she told Us Weekly, noting that keeping things hidden led to feelings of self-doubt.

‘It did foster the insecurity of thoughts I’ve struggled with in the past, like “I’m not pretty, I’m not good enough,”‘ Rimes added. ‘I learned to love myself through all of my transformations.’

Despite feeling as if she had to conceal her health issues, Rimes has been open about suffering from psoriasis, which she revealed for the first time in 2020.

She said ‘it was such a moment of relief’ to publicly share her diagnosis ‘because I had been hiding that for so long.’

‘The same with my mental health and now with perimenopause,’ she continued. ‘Every time I talk about it, I set myself — and someone else — free.’

Rimes — who joined the cast of the upcoming series 9-1-1: Nashville in its title city on Tuesday — mused on how much she had changed over the years.

‘Looking back at all of those different people I was, I know that next year I’ll be different from who I am now. I hope I am,’ she said.

‘I’m aware of getting the chance to love all of the aspects of myself. Some of those are harder to love, but I now have the bandwidth and capacity,’ Rimes continued. ‘I can talk to myself in a kinder way.’

Despite facing health struggles, the performer confirmed that she now feels ‘great.’

‘My physical health has been something I’ve focused on the past few years, and preparing my body for the changes it’s going through.’

Rimes has dealt with perimenopause symptoms for years, as they began when she was only in her late 30s.

She told Us Weekly that she has dealt with ‘grief’ due to her condition.

‘Perimenopause is not just about not making eggs anymore. That’s a biological piece of us changing,’ she explained. ‘It’s such a deepening of the soul and allowing pieces of us that no longer serve us to fall away.’

She added, ‘It is such a transformational and beautiful part of life if we know what’s going on with our bodies.’

Rimes has been open about this particular struggle for a while as during a conversation with Flow Space back in July, she recalled, ‘I thought I was crazy for about two years. I was waking up at 3 a.m. all the time, and having really, really heavy anxiety.’

The Coyote Ugly actress also suffers from psoriasis – a ‘chronic disease where skin cells build up quickly, typically causing red or discolored, scaly, and itchy patches on the skin,’ per the National Psoriasis Foundation

Rimes – who is married to Eddie Cibrian – explained to Flow Space that her skin ‘has been pretty clear for years now’ and is also aware of what triggers a flare-up.

However, she expressed that it can also be ’emotionally exhausting’ when it comes to covering a flare-up due to being in the spotlight.

‘It’s so draining because it’s something that you have to think about that most people don’t. So I was just very uncomfortable in my body for a long time.’

Last year in January, Rimes gave her fans another update on her health and revealed that she underwent surgery to remove precancerous cells.

'My physical health has been something I've focused on the past few years, and preparing my body for the changes it's going through,' the singer said

She penned in the caption of an Instagram post: ‘January is usually a challenging month for me.

‘Over the past couple of years, I’ve either been going through dental surgeries or recovering from a vocal hemorrhage around this time, which was all pretty depressing. But, i have to say, this january, has been joyful and easeful.’

A few months earlier, the star had an annual pap smear but the results came back as abnormal.

‘In fact, I’ve had abnormal paps since i was 17 and through regular pap smears and colposcopies, my doctors have been keeping an eye on any cellular changes that could be taking place.’

Rimes then explained that doctors discovered that she had high grade cervical dysplasia.

‘I consulted with my doctor and we jointly decided that a LEEP procedure would be in my best interest, in order to remove the high grade, abnormal, pre-cancerous cells…’

And earlier this year in June, Rimes experienced her dental bridge falling out in the middle of a performance at the Skagit Valley Casino & Resort in Bow, Washington.

When she was 16, Rimes opted to get dental veneers but needed a different dentist to fix them due to the veneers not being bonded correctly.

It resulted in the singer having to undergo a number of root canals as well as oral surgeries.

At the time, she talked to her fans about the shocking experience in an Instagram video and said, ‘So last night, I was on stage in the middle of One Way Ticket. I feel something pop in my mouth.

‘And if you’ve been around, you know I’ve had a lot of dental surgeries, and I have a bridge in the front. It fell out in the middle of my song last night.’

Rimes quickly made her way to the side of the stage to put the bridge back into place.

‘I just had to get real with everybody and tell them exactly what was happening or else I would have had to walk off stage. And so, for the rest of the show, I was literally like this pushing my teeth in like every couple lines and singing.’

She also added, ‘And you know, like I said, there wasn’t a thing I could do about it except either walk off or just hold my teeth in. So, I just ran with it.’

Along with following her passion for music, Rimes has also stepped back into her acting roots by taking on the role of Dixie Bennings in 9-1-1: Nashville.

The new installment in the 9-1-1 franchise is set to begin airing on ABC later this week on October 9.

She also talked to Us Weekly about stepping back in front of the camera and portraying Dixie.

‘I get to let out a side of myself that doesn’t ever come out in real life, so it’s very healing in that way,’ Rimes explained. ‘It was definitely a stretch for me.’
