Trump's migrant crisis efforts: Letters

The Issue: President Trump’s initiatives to fix the crisis in sanctuary cities and at the southern border.

I praise President Trump for keeping his promise to the American people (“Roundup shock and awe,” Jan. 23).

President Trump has initiated raids in sanctuary cities aimed at deporting migrants, in conjunction with plans to deploy 10,000 troops to the border, with the assistance of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Many believe it is crucial for illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes such as murder, theft, and rape to be removed from the country. This approach has garnered praise for President Trump, seen as prioritizing the safety and well-being of American citizens.

The task of deporting criminal illegal aliens, spearheaded by Tom Homan, the border czar, poses significant challenges. Nevertheless, he appears resolute and undeterred in the face of this formidable undertaking.

As if our country didn’t already have enough homegrown criminals, the Biden administration imported thousands of criminals from other countries.

To those who condemn this initiative, open your homes and adopt these criminals. Or get out of the way and let Trump clean up the mess that was left to him.

Billions of dollars have been wasted on food, education, cell phones, clothes and more. We also have those with children born here who automatically become US citizens. Trust me, they certainly abuse those privileges.

Why should the city break the bank to give these people free handouts? It’s a slap in the face to those who earned their citizenship over years of hard work.

True, not all the illegal migrants in the US are bad. But when millions of them come into our country, we have no way of telling the good from the bad. To protect Americans, our government must catch and deport all illegals, and in that way, show compassion for all US citizens.

After they are deported, those people can then apply for legal entry.

Sanctuary cities are not being raided — they are being relieved.

Sanctuary cities were never voted in by citizens. City councils created the mess that has morphed into too many dangerous situations. The price the citizens paid for their badly made decisions was high.

The Issue: President Trump proves his commitment to America as a leader during his first week in office.

President Trump is proving to the country that he is the man for the job (“We can solve all our woes,” Jan. 23).

We should brace ourselves for a busy four years. Like a bench warmer waiting for his opportunity to shine, Trump has been watching the last dreadful four years eagerly awaiting the opportunity to “Make America Great Again.”

A week into his term, he has set his sights on the immigration crisis, firing the failures of the last administration, defunding UNRWA and is now working on an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. We can only imagine what else this term will bring.

After seeing Trump’s first week, I am impressed that we finally have a president who leads. Whether you agree with President Trump’s policies or not, at the very least, we should acknowledge that we finally have a leader who is not afraid to face the public.

What a difference there is between Trump and Biden. Trump does not hide in his basement, only to be brought out for photo-ops. He acts like a leader who is not afraid to face the country and answer difficult questions.
