Libbie Mugrabi has accused her billionaire ex-husband David of hiring a hit woman to kill her as she arrived at court wearing a $25,000 bullet proof vest.

The New York socialite, 43, showed up to family court in lower Manhattan to demand a restraining order against her ex-partner.

Mugrabi donned black sunglasses, a white see-though dress revealing her underwear, and sling-back kitten heels as she arrived at court on Wednesday.

In court, she alleged that her ex-husband David had hired a hit woman to kill her and the judge granted Mugrabi a temporary restraining order against him for herself and her 14-year-old son.

David and Libbie went through a messy $100million divorce in 2020, which included a fight over a $72million Manhattan townhouse, his family’s art collection estimated to be worth $5billion, and their Hamptons home.

They were together for 13 years before they separated.

Libbie stepped out in Manhattan wearing the bullet proof vest amid the city’s yellow smoke due to fumes from Canadian wildfires.

Once in court, Libbie told Judge Karen Lupuloff that she was requesting a restraining order against her ex-husband ‘because he was trying to kill her’, stating in the court: ‘I want a restraining order… because my husband is trying to kill me.

‘He hired a hitwoman.’

When asked by the judge to explain ‘how David directly threatened your life’, the socialite responded: ‘Because [the hitwoman] told [me] many details about my husband, she knew intimate details about my husband.’

Her answer prompted Judge Lupuloff to ask again: ‘I’m specifically directing you to say how this woman made a threat. Why, where was the threat made?’

Libbie then stated that the woman – who she said is called Devora – had ‘stayed outside her house for six days’.

She told the judge that she had spoken to her ex-husband to ask why the woman was outside her home, alleging that he told her: ‘I don’t know who she is. Why don’t you call the police?’ and added, ‘You can’t because the police don’t take you seriously because you lie.’

The socialite then alleged that David told her: ‘You’re done, your life is over.’

Despite the vague details provided to the court, Judge Lupuloff made the decision to grant the restraining order, telling Libbie: ‘The court will include you in the temporary restraining order. The court orders David Mugrabi to stay away from you.

‘He is not allowed to contact the school, he cannot contact you through third parties, by email, text, letter or phone or on social media. Mr Mugrabi is asked not to further harm you. We will have the sheriff serve him. Once he is served then the court will discuss appointing an attorney for this case.’

The case is due to return to court on June 14.

This is not the first time Mugrabi has brought her marital issues to court.

She filed a restraining order against her ex-husband in 2018, accusing him of stealing $250 million worth of art out of her Hamptons home and beating her up with a Keith Haring sculpture. They settled in 2020.

Mugrabi told DailyMail.com outside court: ‘This is not my first time here [in family court].’

In April, a New York judge ordered Mugrabi to fork over $1.8 million in unpaid rent and utilities on a lavish Upper East Side condo she once lived in.

She was cited in two lawsuits that claimed she stopped paying her $28,000 a month rent on the East 82nd Street apartment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Debra James granted the property’s landlord a $1,815,238 judgment which includes taxes, court papers show.

Mugrabi – the ex-wife of billionaire art dealer David Mugrabi – said she permanently relocated to a home in the Hamptons and said of the reward granted in court that it ‘seems insane.’

Mugrabi had been issued an eviction notice from the property in October before the lawsuits against her were filed.

In November 2022, Libbie Mugrabi was arrested for allegedly breaking her ex-housekeeper’s phone and threatening her with a knife and mop handle when asked for the money she owed her. She pleaded not guilty.

David’s Syrian family are legends in the art world – and are worth an estimated $5billion. He met Libbie at The St Regis Hotel in Aspen, Colorado and got married in 2005.
