On Monday evening, a Long Island Rail Road train collided with a car at a railroad crossing, resulting in a dramatic blaze and injuries to three passengers, officials reported.
The incident occurred as the Ronkonkoma-bound train was heading east from Jamaica. The train struck the car at the Little East Neck Road crossing, located just east of the Pinelawn station, around 7:15 p.m., according to the MTA Police.

Three adult passengers aboard the train sustained injuries. While one was treated at the scene, two others were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for further care, authorities confirmed.
Notably, none of the train crew members or any occupants of the car were harmed in the accident. It remains unclear when the car was left on the tracks or whether it was intentionally abandoned.
Following the crash, approximately 40 passengers were evacuated from the LIRR train and provided with bus services to continue their evening commute home, officials added.
Photos of the aftermath of the collision showed firefighters hosing down large orange flames at the front of the train, which appeared charred alongside the completely totaled and burnt shell of the vehicle.

Ronkonkoma branch service remains suspended as authorities assess the damage and repair to tracks at the scene of the fiery crash.
The MTA has urged customers to check the TrainTime app or head to mta.info for updated information about their morning commute.
The Suffolk County Police Department assisted with the MTAPD response, and the incident remains under investigation.
