BATAVIA, Ill. (WLS) — Lisa Ann Walter not only stars on the ABC hit show “Abbott Elementary,” she’s also a popular standup comedian.
She’ll be performing in west suburban Batavia in a week. She said she’s thrilled to be coming back to the Chicago area just for laughs.

“You can’t get rid of me; I’m like a bad penny. I keep showing up,” Walter said. “My favorite thing to make them feel is joy. That’s why God put me here; it’s what juices me up, you know, what gives me the zing, watching an audience respond to stuff I made up in my head that I thought they would enjoy.”
She said she’s been lucky to able to do what she loves.
“All of the stuff that I do is because I love it. And to get to do that, not as a side hustle, but as my gig, that is a blessing that I do not take lightly,” Walter said. “And at this stage of my career to have this big hit, there is no such thing as that’s the end of my dream unless you decide it.”
She reminisced on some familial advice, as well.
“My Sicilian great grandmother used to say, ‘you’re in a box a long time,’ which is a very depressing way of saying that there’s going to be plenty of time when you’re doing nothing. When you have a chance and you’re here and you’re healthy, go to a city you love and make people have a good time, yeah,” Walter said.
Walter warmed up for her gig in Chicago on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
There will be more from Walter on ABC7 Chicago next week for the season debut of “Abbott Elementary” on Wednesday.
See her in-person Oct. 3 and 4, doing standup at The Comedy Vault in Batavia.
