California, alongside several other states, has initiated legal action against the Trump administration following its decision to halt food assistance benefits amid the government shutdown.
California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, has accused the U.S. Department of Agriculture of illegally withholding funds meant for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bonta argues that despite the availability of funds that could sustain the program, the department has chosen not to utilize them.
During a press conference, Bonta was supported by California Governor Gavin Newsom and State Health Secretary Kim Johnson as they collectively highlighted the issue.
