I find myself in a constant dilemma when trying to assess this Brazilian team. It seems I can’t quite settle on a definitive opinion.
Leading up to their match against Scotland, I couldn’t help but voice my concerns. Gone, it seemed, were the days of the dazzling Brazil of the past, as I speculated that the team had lost some of its former brilliance.
The outcome of the match, however, might compel me to reconsider. Perhaps the Scottish players, who endured a thorough defeat, would have a different story to tell.
Yet, I’m not claiming that this is the enchanting Brazil of old. But I must admit, their performance in the final group encounter against Scotland was impressive in its own right.
With Vinicius Jr at the helm, Brazil executed stunning transitions and boasted a sturdy defense. They indeed showcased the complete package.
It made me think that this Brazil side could possibly go further than many of us thought. They still have enough joga bonito (playing beautifully in Portuguese) to do damage to teams.
However, tonight they are facing their biggest test of this tournament so far. And yes, I know they played Morocco in the group.
Japan are now slouch, they will push the Brazilians all the way.
