Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff honors slain soldiers
General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Epic Fury.
“Last week, I mentioned some of the fallen, and today, I want to acknowledge the others,” Caine stated. “Major Jeffrey O’Brien and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Larson were the last casualties we suffered as they made their way home. They served with the US Army Reserve’s 103rd Sustainment Command based in Des Moines, Iowa.”
Caine continued, “As has been widely reported, we recently commemorated the return of Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington from the US Air Force Space Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado.”
“When I visited the Pennington family last night, his parents and sister showed me a childhood drawing by Ben. Even then, his passion for serving his country was evident,” Caine reflected. “To the Pennington family, please know that Ben was truly remarkable in his service.”
Concluding his remarks, Caine noted, “Lastly, Major Shreffley returned home this weekend after a seven-hour journey.”
