POCAHONTAS, Iowa (KCAU) — After a family of six lost not just their home but everything they owned inside of their home to a fire, residents of Pocahontas, Iowa, decided to come together and help with a clothing drive.

“We really want to thank Angie Cook and Deena Hudson for putting this on for us. It is overwhelming in the love and support. Over this last week, our home that we lost was a three generation home and the fire department to us is absolutely family,” said Lynn Bellows, a victim of the fire.

John and Lynn Bellows and their four kids lost their home to a fire recently, so the town of Pocahontas got together to make sure the Bellows’ needs were met.

“Angie Cook had texted me Saturday morning right after it happened, and she said, I feel like we should do something. And my brain just like automatically took me to let’s do a clothing drive. So then like, yeah, like I said, in like 45 minutes, we had this place booked. We had the school on board, we had fliers pushed out,” said Deena Hudson, the leader of the clothing drive.

John Bellows expressed that this tragedy has been hard and rough on his kids.

“Our youngest son just says, he goes, I want to go home. And it’s that’s that stuff because we’re we’re a little ways away from being able to go home, but we’ll get there,” said John.

Hudson hopes people will take this act of kindness into consideration when someone they know goes through an unfortunate tragedy.

“When someone goes through a tragedy, it’s easy to, like, message them or text them and be like, hey, what do you need? What can I do? Let me know if you need anything. At that point of tragedy, those people don’t have any idea where to even start. So I highly encourage people to kind of just go forward with some of these things,” said Hudson
