CHICAGO (WLS) — Lollapalooza kicked off Thursday in Grant Park, and it’s set to be four days of non-stop music, energy and big name performances.
More than 170 artists will hit eight stages Thursday through Sunday.
ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch
Tyler the Creator brings the heat and Luke Combs will have the country vibes as Thursday’s headliners.
This weekend includes big names like Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, A$AP Rocky, and Doechii.
With tens of thousands expected downtown, CTA and Metra are stepping up with extra trains and service all weekend long.
Gates open each day at 11 a.m. There are two entrances to the festival grounds in Grant Park: the main entrance at Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells Drive and a north entrance at Monroe Street and Columbus Drive.
Gates close at 10 p.m. each night.
Expect large crowds and traffic.
ABC7 Chicago caught up with a few people who were lined up hours before the gates officially opened.
“I am excited to see Gracie Abrams,” Abel Dominguez Nunez said. “I have been following her since she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on tour. Being barricaded, we are going to try to. This is really special to us.”
“I just like the atmosphere,” Kyle Freeman from Elmhurst said. “Live concerts, and I love to see people perform live. There is a lot of energy; it is different than a regular concert, and definitely a lot more people.”
“I am most excited to see Gracie Abrams and Sabrina Carpenter,” said Katie Poe, who traveled from Nebraska. “I just love the music, the vibes, the people. It is so much fun connecting with different kinds of things. Especially Chicago, Chicago is a great city.”
“Four days: How are you going to last the four days? I don’t know, water?” Alejandra Rodriguez said.
For some, this is their first Lollapalooza.
“I have been to a few festivals before, Coachella, Made in America, Rolling Loud: Lolla has been on the bucket list,” said Paulina Pitera, who is visiting from Pennsylvania.
“This is not my first Lolla; I am happy to be back. I am excited for Luke Combs. They’re bringing out some country artists. It’s been mostly pop and rap; so, I’m excited,” attendee Rachel said.
A hazy Chicago skyline could be seen from the festival grounds, but the poor air quality is not stopping people from enjoying everything Lolla has to offer.
“We definitely took precautions; we have everything we need in our hotel. So we can make sure we are all good and safe,” Pitera said.

CTA and Metra will post signs directing commuters to the right bus lines to connect to the festival from those stations. There will be bus line re-routes near Grant Park during the festival weekend.
The closest CTA stops to Grant Park are Monroe, Jackson and Harrison on the Red Line; Adams/Wabash and State/Van Buren – Harold Washington Library on the Brown Line; and Monroe, Jackson and LaSalle on the Blue Line.
