The search intensifies for a missing Long Island teenager last spotted at New York’s Grand Central Terminal two weeks ago. Authorities now suspect that the 15-year-old might have been planning to meet someone he encountered on a popular online gaming platform, as shared by his concerned mother.

Thomas Medlin vanished after leaving the Stony Brook School campus at around 3:30 p.m. on January 9. He was seen running to the Stony Brook Long Island Rail Road Station, where he boarded a train headed for New York City, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The young resident of Saint James was later identified on surveillance footage arriving at Grand Central Terminal approximately two hours after departing. Since then, there has been no trace of him, and he remains uncontactable.

“This is completely unlike him,” expressed his heartbroken mother, Eva Yan, in an emotional interview with News 12 Long Island. She disclosed startling insights that have emerged in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities now suspect that Thomas might have arranged to meet someone he met through the online game Roblox in New York City. His mother insists that this behavior is entirely uncharacteristic of her son, adding to her distress.

Police recently told the family that the boy’s phone was located in Lower Manhattan and he was recently spotted on surveillance video in Brooklyn, Yan told the outlet.

Medlin’s last known location was near Cherry and Rutgers Streets in the Lower East Side.

“I just can’t believe why he left in the first place,” his tearful father told the outlet, with Yan stressing that they “just want him to be safe.”

Medlin’s distraught parents have teamed up with friends to organize search parties across Long Island and New York City since the youngster vanished.

Police said the approximately 130-pound, 5-foot-4 teen was last seen wearing a black jacket with red stripes, dark sweatpants with white stripes and a black backpack and glasses.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Suffolk County’s Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
