Nick Reiner is facing serious charges, accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were tragically stabbed to death in their Los Angeles residence.
LOS ANGELES — On Monday morning, Nick Reiner is set to appear before a Los Angeles court for his arraignment and plea hearing.
The 32-year-old is charged with the murder of his parents, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, who were found dead on December 14 at their Brentwood, California home.
Rob and Michele, a beloved Hollywood couple married for over 35 years, were killed in a stabbing incident, according to the autopsy findings. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office reported that Nick Reiner allegedly fled the scene but was apprehended several hours later.
Reiner faces two counts of murder, with an additional charge for allegedly using a dangerous and deadly weapon during the crime.
If convicted of the murder charges, he faces death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole.
His arraignment and plea hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday, Feb. 23. He is expected to plead not guilty, which is common for criminal defendants at this stage of the case, the Associated Press reports.
The hearing on Monday is a postponement date, after Nick Reiner’s high-profile defense attorney, Alan Jackson, removed himself from the case prior to the original arrangement. He is now being represented by Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene.
The night before the Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead, Nick and his parents attended a party at the home of comedian and former talk show host Conan O’Brien. Guests at the party shared multiple reports that Nick Reiner appeared agitated, out of sorts and “disruptive.”
The New York Times previously reported that was placed under a mental health conservatorship in 2020 through 2021. The outlet cited confirmation from a clerk at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
A decade ago, Nick Reiner publicly discussed his struggles with addiction and mental health after making a movie with his father, “Being Charlie,” that was very loosely based on their lives.
Rob Reiner was a prolific director whose work included some of the most memorable and endlessly watchable movies of the 1980s and ’90s. His credits included “This is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally,” during whose production he met Michele Singer, a photographer, and married her soon after.
