Three individuals have been apprehended after being discovered with firearms near the scene.
CLINTON, La. — A shooting at a Mardi Gras parade in Louisiana on Saturday left five people injured, including a young child, as reported by officials.
The incident occurred in front of the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse in Clinton, Louisiana, amid the parade festivities. Following the incident, the event was canceled.
“We have five victims who were shot today, including a 6-year-old. As of now, we have no reports of any fatalities,” stated East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis.
Details about the victims and their medical conditions have not yet been disclosed. However, Chief Criminal Deputy Bill Cox informed The Advocate that all the injured individuals are expected to recover.
One suspect is in custody, but officials are looking for a car that may be connected to the shooting, according to WWL.
“The parade did not get to Main Street before shots were fired,” Travis said during a press conference. He said multiple local and state agencies were on the scene.
Three suspects were taken into custody after being found with guns in the immediate area. Officials emphasized the individuals are not confirmed suspects in the shooting.
“We have three individuals in custody,” said Sheriff Travis. “And when I say custody, I mean, we took them in custody, I’m not saying that they actually did the shooting, but all three of these individuals were identified; they had guns in the immediate area and we took those people into custody.”
Investigators are also searching for a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting.
Everyone injured in the shooting is currently believed to be an innocent bystander, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office asked for anyone with photos or video of the shooting or nearby areas to share those with investigators.
