NEW YORK — A potential turning point looms in the federal prosecution of Luigi Mangione, as sources reveal he is likely to announce a guilty plea during a conference set for Friday in federal court. This information comes directly from individuals briefed on the case, as reported by ABC News.
However, it’s crucial to note that nothing is set in stone. The plea arrangement remains tentative until the official announcement at the hearing, planned for 11 a.m. on Friday. Given the complexity of such decisions, Mangione could still alter his course and choose not to plead guilty.
At this time, both the prosecution and defense are remaining tight-lipped, providing no comment on the impending court event.
Mangione faces severe allegations, including the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024, in Midtown Manhattan. He was apprehended in Pennsylvania following an intense five-day manhunt. On December 17, 2024, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg disclosed that Mangione had been indicted on first-degree murder charges. Shortly afterward, on December 19, federal prosecutors filed additional charges of stalking and murder against him.
