PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) — This week, we feature Maine East High School on ABC7’s Friday Flyover, celebrating high school sports!

Fast Facts

-5 feeding communities (Niles, Morton Grove, Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Glenview)

-82 home languages are represented among our student population*

-Approximately 2000 students

-Unique opportunities include:

-performing and visual arts programs with a depth of opportunities including dark room photography, ceramics, dance, and acting and technical design

-STEM programs including engineering, architecture, and hospitality and culinary business education including entrepreneurship and marketing

-32 Students earned CNA certification

-Unique academic classes designed within each department

-2nd school in Illinois to offer Assyrian

-34 AP Course

-37 Dual Credit Courses

-90+ students Seal of Biliteracy

-The tower out front was inspired by the Powell Library Building at UCLA.

-1st High School to offer Automotives in the high school environment

-First TRI-M Music Society was formed in 1936 called Maine Music Masters

-WMTH-FM is the longest student-operated radio station with the first broadcast of a basketball game in the fieldhouse in December 1959. The student sportscaster was Harrison Ford.

Over 30 IHSA sanctioned sports

-Extensive academic and comprehensive student support services

-Dedicated post-high school counselors to chart students’ individual pathways after high school

FRIDAY FLYOVER VOTING

Voting will take place after the formation video is posted on the ABC7 TikTok page. The school that gets the most likes on their Friday Flyover formation video will be the winner.
