Supporters of Zohran Mamdani, who braved the bitter cold to witness the new mayor’s swearing-in, found themselves let down by the festive promises made by the socialist politician.

Outside City Hall, Mamdani’s backers were left without restroom access or food vendors, packed into barricaded areas during the New Year’s Day event.
While the crowd watched the inauguration unfold on large screens, 4,000 invited guests had the privilege of witnessing the ceremony firsthand inside City Hall’s plaza.

“It’s not exactly what I was expecting,” said Brooklyn resident Shane Turner, 30. “I was expecting food and music.”
“I could’ve watched this from home,” a 25-year-old Queens woman added.
