A Philadelphia man accused of entering a Midtown synagogue while shouting “Allahu Akbar” last year was arrested Wednesday after police allegedly caught him attempting to evade a subway fare, according to law enforcement sources.
Shear Nobles, 48, allegedly walked into Shuva Israel on East 58th Street during an evening service on July 21, 2025. Police said he began recording without permission and made the disturbing declaration.
Authorities said Nobles had no connection to the synagogue and remained in the main prayer area during what they described as an anti-Semitic incident.
He reportedly fled on foot and remained at large for more than a year. His case resurfaced when officers with a sharp eye allegedly spotted him trying to enter the subway without paying at Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan, sources said.

Police stopped Nobles as he was allegedly ducking beneath a turnstile, according to the sources.
He was charged with aggravated harassment and disrupting a religious service, police said.
Nobles had no prior arrests in New York City, but sources said his record in Philadelphia includes arrests for robbery, burglary and retail-related offenses dating back roughly two decades.
