The Lake City Police Department said 65-year-old Joe Markham was arrested after the incident on South Main Boulevard Monday morning.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — A man is facing charges after Lake City Police said he brandished a gun during a road rage incident Monday morning.
The Lake City Police Department said 65-year-old Joe Markham was arrested after the incident on South Main Boulevard.
Around 11:52 a.m., officers responded to the area of South Main Boulevard and Brown Street after a driver reported that another driver had pointed a gun at him.
Police said the victim fled the area, fearing for his safety and reported the incident to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The suspect’s vehicle was quickly located and deputies conducted a traffic stop.
Police said the investigation found that Markham exited his vehicle and pointed a black handgun at the victim.
A search of Markham’s vehicle found a black .22 caliber handgun, police said.
“I urge all drivers to remain calm and avoid escalating situations on the road,” said Lake City Chief of Police Gerald Butler. “If confronted with an aggressive driver, individuals should prioritize safety by distancing themselves from the aggressor and calling 911 immediately, as was done in this incident.”
Markham was arrested and taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.
He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a firearm.
